Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The North West Department of Health in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District is working on closing the HIV treatment gap. Almost 8 000 patients need to return to treatment. According to the Chief Director: District Health Services, Bongani Patrick Maboe, the department is actively running a campaign with multiple outreach services across the district to find HIV positive clients to initiate and keep on treatment, and to return missing clients to treatment. Returning to treatment and adhering to it, has been proven to be the only way to close the 1.1 million gap of missing HIV clients in the system. The District has been allocated to find and return to treatment 7 795 clients.
Police cleaning out crime all over NW
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - As part of stamping the authority of the state, the weekly High Density Operation Shanela operations conducted between September 15 and 21, resulted in the arrest of 1 038 suspects. Police spokesperson Col Adele Myburgh said the operations, among others, focused on stop and searches, roadblocks, vehicle check points (VCPs), high-visibility patrols including foot patrols, the tracing of wanted suspects as well as visits to liquor outlets, taverns, and second-hand goods premises.
The arrested suspects included 21 for murder, 10 for robbery, 43 for rape, 275 for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH), 70 for common assault, 12 for burglary at business and residential premises, 19 for illegal possession of firearms, 30 for driving whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs, 76 for contravention of the Immigration Act, 24 for illegal dealing in liquor and 129 for possession of drugs.
Spaza shop deaths: Sisters buried together
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The death of two little girls shocked the community after it became known that they bought chips from a local spaza shop hours before their death. Sisters Realeboga Khaje (4) and Mosa Mogomotsi Mekgoe (3) were taken to hospital by their mother after feeling sick.
Sewage catastrophe: DA points finger to the Mayor
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Klerksdorp is heading for an environmental catastrophe if the main wastewater treatment plant is not repaired soon. Currently the plant discharges 69 litres of untreated sewage in the Schoonspruit poisoning the community. According to the DA “this is a full-blown sewage crisis that was allowed to spiral out of control’’. The plant has been out of service since July 2023 when an armed mob overpowered security guards at the site, stripping it bare. The main transformer located at the plant and the electrical cable network were stolen.
Mayor promises to ‘fix things’ in Uraniaville
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Matlosana Mayor Fikile Mahlophe promised business owners in Uraniaville a turnaround in service delivery. With the MMC for Infrastructure at his side on Friday September 12 he said Operation Tlhasela will resolve their fears and he scheduled a follow-up meeting for September 26 to review the progress made in the industrial area. Last week, the DA voiced their concern on what they call the “continued collapse of services in Uraniaville and Klerkindustria’’. DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen visited Uraniaville to witness the neglect, where at that stage Uraniaville has had no water for more than a week.
