RUSTENBURG HERALD - KANANA - The police in Boitekong are investigating a case of murder following the death of a four-year-old child at Matalaneng Section, Kanana Village. Rustenburg Police spokesperson Ofentse Mokgadi said it is alleged that during the early hours of Monday, 8 December, a 30-year-old man was left alone with his four-year-old son. Upon returning, a family member found the man unconscious with injuries to his neck and chest, and the child lying motionless on a bed.

The remains of a yoghurt container were found in the room.
Emergency medical services and police were called to the scene. The child was certified dead, while the father was taken to hospital for medical treatment.
An inquest was initially opened as the circumstances surrounding the death were unclear. The child’s body was taken to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination, and the yoghurt remains were seized for forensic analysis.
Further investigations revealed that the child’s mother had a protection order against the suspect and that the child had been removed without her consent.
Following the investigation, the father was arrested on 11 December, while still hospitalised - he remains under police guard. He appeared before the Tlhabane Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 15 December on a charge of murder. Investigations into the matter are continuing.
