RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The excitement was palpable as players from various clubs gathered for the final leg of the Courage Cup soccer tournament at Selly Park Secondary School sports field on Saturday, 31 May.
This event not only showcased exceptional talent but also fostered teamwork, sports-manship, and camaraderie among partici-pants.
The tournament featured local teams, namely Infinity Football Club, Golden Boys, Dream Team and MS Stars, who displayed remarkable skill and determination. Each team brought its unique strengths, making every game unpredictable and thrilling. Beyond the competition, the event promoted valuable life skills such as discipline, perseverance, and collaboration.
The tournament’s success was evident in the enthusiasm of both the players and spectators. It served as a platform for players and parents alike to develop their soccer abilities while building a friendly environment.
Games went past with the juniors battling out on the top field, but the game of the day was the U/17 final that saw two bulls face off in the final. Infinity FC and Dream Team newly dubbed as the Sundowns and Pirates duo faced each other in the final.
The sports field erupted with an uproar when Infinity FC netted their first goal within minutes. This saw the Dream Team coach call for backup as things were getting steamy. There was nothing they could do as the duo of Sbusiso Mahlangu and Remoneilwe Makgale stood firm like the walls of Jericho.
Dream Team stood no chance as they suffered yet another blow at the hands of The Mufasas. The final whistle blew, and it was victory for the pridelands team Infinity FC - marking it their third silverware collection within a month.
Amogelang “Masterchef” Khunou, who scooped the Best Goalkeeper award in the previous, leg proved how versatile of a player he is as he scooped the Top Goal scorer after ditching his Spider-Man powers and opting to play in field. Thapelo “Marcelo” Modibedi scooped the Player of the Tournament and Mathlogonolo Mhlambi was crowned Goalkeeper of the Tournament.
Overall, the Courage Cup soccer tour-nament was a resounding success, ce-lebrating athleticism, teamwork, and sport-manship. It left a lasting impact on all involved, reinforcing the value of sports in fostering personal growth and community.
