RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG – The police in Rustenburg have recorded a major breakthrough following the arrest of three suspects in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a man who was reported missing in January 2023.
According to information received from W/O Ofentse Mokgadi, Rustenburg police spokesperson, at the time of reporting, the family believed the victim was travelling and did not initially suspect foul play.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the victim had been kidnapped and murdered, and that an amount exceeding one million rand was unlawfully transferred from his bank account.
Through intelligence-driven and intense tactical investigations by the Bojanala Platinum Sub-District 2 Trio Task Team, conducted across the North West, Gauteng and the Eastern Cape, the suspects were successfully traced, located and arrested on 26 January 2026.
The arrested suspects, 31-year-old Bafana Kgaladi, 27-year-old Pretty Nomhle Jack and 28-year-old Kgomotso Rapoo, were remanded in custody after their first couert appearance. 
Investigations indicate that the victim was strangled with an electric cord following a dispute. His body was later disposed of in bushes near Mosenthal, with the assistance of an accomplice who was promised payment.
On 28 January 2026, the victim’s body was recovered and arrangements have been made for DNA testing to confirm identification.
The suspects face charges including murder, kidnapping, theft, fraud and defeating the ends of justice.
Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Mamotsamai Ntoagae praised the investigation team, stating: "This breakthrough demonstrates the value of persistence, intelligence-driven policing and inter-provincial cooperation. Even when cases take time, SAPS remains committed to ensuring that perpetrators are traced and brought before court."
