BRITS POS – ZEERUST/LICTHENBURG – A lion in transport from the Free State to North West, made a daring escape between Zeerust and Lichtenburg from a trailer that he was transported in on Monday.
The animal was caught on video escaping through the roof of the wildlife transporter before leaping to the ground as the driver was immediately pulling of the road and the lion crossed the road.

BRITS POS – BRITS - Energy expert Anton Eberhard said Eskom would not have made a profit if it had not got a R64 billion bailout from the government.
Eberhard was commenting on a press statement from Eskom, where the power utility credited its turnaround strategy for its return to profitability.
Eskom reported a profit before tax of R23.9 billion, marking the first time it has shown a profit since 2017. Last year, it suffered a loss of R25.5 billion.

More than 1 400 suspects arrested in one week
BRITS POS – BRITS - The enhanced crime prevention and combating weekly high-density Operation Shanela 2 operations conducted between Monday, 6 and Sunday, 12 October, culminated in the arrest of 1 454 suspects for different transgressions across the North West province.
“The operations focused on stop and searches, roadblocks, vehicle check points (VCPs), high-visibility patrols including foot patrols, the tracing of wanted suspects, the confiscation of illegal firearms as well as visits to liquor outlets and taverns,” reports Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, SAPS North West spokesperson.
Carjacking suspect finally brought to book
BRITS POS – BRITS - The police in Brits finally brought to book one of the wanted suspects who are believed to be behind a spate of carjackings allegedly committed in Brits, Mooinooi, Bethanie and surrounding areas.
The police received information on Thursday morning, 2 October 2025, about the suspect’s whereabouts.
