NOORDWESTER – MOLOPO - In Lomanyaneng, in the early hours of 17 September, a security guard at a school was overpowered by three men, wearing balaclavas.
The men pointed at the victim with a firearm and tied him before gaining entry into the staff room where they stole tablets and laptops. The security guard was only rescued the next morning by cleaners while reporting on duty.
Police act on illicit trade - R260 million worth of counterfeit goods
NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG - The South African Police Service (SAPS) together with its crime-fighting partners, continues to record commendable progress in dismantling the illegal trade in counterfeit and illicit goods across the country. Within a week, police seized counterfeit goods valued at more than R260 million during multiple takedown operations in North West province.
Duo in court for double murder and attempted murder
NOORDWESTER – ZEERUST - Two male suspects were expected to appear in the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court on 15 September, on two counts of murder, five of attempted murder and one of defeating the ends of justice.
The suspects, aged 29 and 33, were arrested and detained after they handed themselves over to the police. During the arrest, a 9mm pistol, a magazine and five rounds of ammunition were confiscated from the suspects.
12 Men apprehended for violent crimes
NOORDWESTER – ZEERUST - 12 Men between the ages of 21 and 48 were remanded in custody until their next court appearance.
They appeared before court for the murder of Mzomuhle Themba Zulu (35), attempted murder, kidnapping, robbery and malicious damage to property. Their first court appearance was before the Zeerust Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 18 September.
Murder accused sentenced to life imprisonment
NOORDWESTER – LOMANYANENG - Phako Tlape (33) was found guilty by the Mmabatho Regional Court and sentenced to life imprisonment this week for the murder of Sebule Isaac Sebule (31).
Evidence presented before court by the investigating officer, Warrant Officer Samuel Matiti of the Trio Task Team in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District, indicated that police were called to a Tavern in Dithakong West in Lomanyaneng, close to Mahikeng, on Saturday, 29 July 2023 at about 18:40, where the lifeless body of Sebule was found with several stab wounds.
