NOORDWESTER – MOLOPO - The Specialised Commercial Crimes Court sitting in Molopo has sentenced Patrick Segalo (52) to direct imprisonment following his conviction on seven counts of fraud and seven counts of money laundering.
The court consolidated all counts for sentencing and imposed ten years’ imprisonment for fraud, five of which are wholly suspended for five years, and an additional five years for money laundering. The sentences will run concurrently, resulting in an effective five years of direct imprisonment. Segalo was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

Company fined for failure to submit tax returns
NOORDWESTER – VENTERSDORP - The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) welcomes the imposition of a hefty fine on CJC Precast (Pty) Ltd, represented by its director, John Christopher Conroy (60), by the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court.
CJC Precast faced 65 counts of contravening Section 234(d) of the Tax Administration Act 28 of 2011 – failure to submit tax returns.
Another electricity increase set to hit SA households
NOORDWESTER - -LICHTENBURG- Households across the country need to brace for significant electricity price hikes to hit from 1 July, as municipalities prepare to implement above-inflation tariff increases.
National energy regulator Nersa received applications for tariff hikes from 130 municipalities in May, which it is currently processing for implementation from 1 July. Nersa approved the Eskom Retail Tariffs and Structural Adjustment (ERTSA) for 2025 in March, including the 12.74% increase for Eskom direct customers.
