RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) is outraged by the reckless decision to appoint Morufa Moloto, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the North West Parks and Tourism Board (NWPTB) despite her currently being out on bail on corruption charges.
This appointment shows members of government is prepared to turn a blind eye to corruption. The DA demands the immediate suspension of the appointed CFO until the criminal case is resolved and a full investigation into how this person was shortlisted, interviewed, and given the job.
Suspected Moruleng robbers swiftly nabbed in Gauteng
RUSTENBURG HERALD - MOGWASE - Three suspects accused of business robbery and kidnapping in Moruleng village, near Rustenburg, appeared before the Mogwase Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 15 July.
According to Lieut Col Sam Tselanyane, North West police Spokesperson, the trio’s court appearance follows their arrest on Saturday, 12 July, in Soweto, Gauteng.
“Sangoma” behind bars for rape
BONUS - TLHABANE - The Bafokeng Regional Court in Tlhabane has sentenced 46-year-old Joseph Madubula Mnisi, to 14 years direct imprisonment for rape and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
The sentencing took place on Thursday, 10 July.
Sgt Ofentse Mokgadi, Rustenburg police Spokesperson said the incident occurred in February 2024 in Meriting, near Rustenburg.

Die twee vermeende moordenaars, Onke Mbongo en Gift Mlhanga, se borgaansoek is egter geweier, tot groot verligting van die Koster-familie en lede van die gemeenskap.
Convicted copper cable thief slapped with lengthy term
RUSTENBURG HERALD - TLHABANE - On Monday, 14 July, the Tlhabane Regional Court sentenced 54-year-old Mozambican national John Paipai Sithole to a total of 16 years’ direct imprisonment for copper cable theft and contravention of the Immigration Act.
The sentencing, according to Sgt Ofentse Mokgadi, Rustenburg police Spokesperson, stems from an incident that occurred on 12 February 2025 at a well-known Mine in Luka Village, where Sithole was apprehended by mine security while still on the premises, in possession of stolen copper cable valued at R 31 444.
Municipality tackles non-compliant businesses in Rustenburg
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - As part of the City At Work service delivery programme, the Directorate of Local Economic Development, in collaboration with the Municipality’s Law Enforcement Unit, conducted a by-law compliance operation along Thabo Mbeki Street in the Rustenburg CBD, on Monday, 14 July.
The inspection, according to the muni-cipality, focused on verifying whether business owners and informal traders held valid business trading licences and adhered to the municipal regulations governing outdoor advertising.

Home Affairs extends working hours
RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The Department of Home Affairs has announced that it is extending operating hours at its offices from 7 - 21 July 2025.
In a statement on Monday, 7 July, the department said the two-hour extension in operating hours will see offices close at 18:00 instead of 16:00.

RUSTENBURG HERALD - RUSTENBURG - The commissioning of a Digital Mammography x-ray machine on 25 June, brought excitement to hospital management and staff as patients will now get access to results within 72 hours. The procurement of the Digital Mammography x-ray machine will accelerate the turnaround time of mammography results for patients. The procurement of this machine will result in improved access to care for patients, as previously, they had to travel to Mahikeng Provincial hospital to access these services.
