Volgens rdl Gerhard Strydom van die DA is die munisipaliteit reeds onder die hoogste in die land wat eiendomsbelasting betref. “Die verhogings is onaanvaarbaar aangesien inwoners hier reeds meer betaal, terwyl dienslewering misluk.’’
13 June 2025 - Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - During his visit to Klerksdorp this week, the Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa, engaged with the leadership of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District on future energy solutions.
The Minister was hosted by District Mayor Cllr Nikiwe Num, and was joined by the Mayors, Municipal Managers, MMCs, Chief of Staffs, and senior managers from the three local municipalities. The visit was part of an ongoing dialogue to explore urgent solutions to the region’s electricity challenges.
13 June 2025 - Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - There is new blood in the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Mayoral Committee.
This week, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipal’s Executive Mayor, Nikiwe Num, announced she is reshuffling her mayoral committee. This comes after Rose Thabanchu, became the new Chief Whip in the Matlosana Municipality. Num excused her from her position as MMC in Budget and Treasury. Cllr Wendy Makhate, MMC of Community Services, was also excused from her duties and will continue as a PR Councillor in council.
13 June 2025 - Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The City of Matlosana is failing tax-paying residents by not enforcing the city’s bylaws on illegal dumping in residential areas.
Cllr Lourens Cromhout says the municipality is devaluing property values by allowing illegal dumping sites in neighbourhoods.
He uses the corner of Hamman and Scheepers Street in Meiringspark as an example saying the once neat and clean neighbourhood has turned into an eye sore. “Illegal dumping is not only a nuisance; it is a direct violation of our bylaws and a significant threat to the beauty and health of our city.
“Every day, we witness the consequences of this irresponsible behaviour. Plastic bags and hazardous waste litter our streets and parks.’’
Cromhout said the municipality should stop ignoring their responsibility to the community who has a right to a clean environment.
13 June 2025 - Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The police in the North West have been very active during the first week of June.
Weekly High Density Shanela operations apprehended 851 suspects for a variety of crimes ranging from burglaries at residential and non-residential premises, aggravated robberies, murders, rapes, dealing in and possession of drugs, driving under the influence of liquor, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, illegal possession of explosives, which are used during illegal mining and cash in-transit robberies, among others.
